CHFP Weightlifting Youth and High School Development Program

Cara Heads Slaughter became involved in the sport of Olympic weightlifting at age 13. Cara's high school coach introduced her to the snatch and the clean and jerk to become a better all around athlete. The opportunity to be introduced to the sport of weightlifting at a young age changed the trajectory of Cara's life, propelling her into an 18 year lifting career which included winning 2 junior and 8 senior national championship titles, setting numerous junior and senior American records, and representing the United States at 5 world championships and the 2000 Olympic Games.

Cara is committed to providing similar opportunities to young athletes by organizing a youth and high school development program in the metro DC region. The program is designed to encourage participation of school-age athletes in the sport of weightlifting, and to provide mentoring and training to coaches of young athletes.

CHFP Weightlifting will host a high school development meet on Saturday, April 25 at CrossFit South Arlington. The competition will be preceded by a USAW referee clinic led by LWC president John Filippini. Email info@chfitnessandperformance.com for details.
