Huge Weekend of Weightlifting in DMV

Wow, what a weekend! It is exciting to see Olympic weightlifting thriving in our region. Of course, none of this is possible without the many people generously offering their time and energy. First, I want to thank my good friend and two-time Olympian Kendrick Farris. When Kendrick learned of our vision to grow school-age weightlifting in the DC region, he quickly and kindly offered to come to DC to support of effort and meet with the kids and coaches. Needless to say, the kids, coaches and parents were blown away by his joyful energy. Kendrick also took time to put in some training during our Open Workout sessions at our training center on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning and our athletes were thrilled to have the opportunity to train alongside one the world’s elite weightlifters.

Later on Saturday, Maryland-Potomac Valley LWC President John Filippini led a referee clinic prior to our School Age Development Meet at CrossFit South Arlington. A huge thanks goes to meet director and coach Evy Voltaire who organized the competition and leads our youth development program. It is inspiring to see how well coached and prepared these young lifters are. Kudos to the coaches and thanks to the many volunteers who made it a great experience for the next generation of weightlifters.

Finally, congratulations to all of the lifters who competed in the fifth annual Capital City Open on Sunday at Trident CrossFit. Thanks to Michael Choi who organized another outstanding meet!
