CHFP Weightlifting named "Strongest Team" of LWC

CHFP Weightlifting had 14 athletes invited to compete at the inaugural Maryland-Potomac Valley LWC Championships on Saturday, September 23 in Chantilly, VA.

The LWC Championships is an invitational meet for USA Weightlifting athletes in Maryland, Washington D.C. and Northern Virginia with the top qualifying totals in each weight class, regardless of age group, from August 5, 2016 to August 12, 2017.

With eight women and six men invited to compete, CHFP Weightlifting fielded the largest team at the championships.

In the first session, we had four athletes take the platform, Lucy Nguyen [48 kg], Natalie Andrews [58 kg], Emily Baskin [58 kg], Kat Lee [58 kg]. Lucy and Kat earned the first medals with each capturing Gold for their weight classes.

John Bova was the team's sole athlete in Session 2 and took home a Bronze medal in the 77 kg class as reward for a perfect 6 for 6 performance and a 220 kg total.

Session 3 featured four CHFP athletes: Kristin Vdorick [75 kg], Whitney Bennett [90 kg], Carrie Evavold [+90], and Ambrea Watts [+90 kg]. who each captured medals in their respective classes with Whitney and Carrie earning Bronze, Kristin earning Silver, and Ambrea taking home GOLD.

The final session featured our final group of men: Nick Bailey [85 kg], Joe Mackie [85 kg], Cole Bramble [94 kg], James Weathers [105 kg], Bill Metts [+105 kg]. The guys finished strong to add to the team medal haul with Joe taking home Bronze, Nick and James capturing Silver, and Cole earning Gold.

Going into the Championships, the coaching staff's goal was simple and straightforward: ensure that our athletes express consistency and success on attempts and the results will take care of themselves. Mission accomplished. Collectively as a team, which included the support of many teammates, athletes were successful on over 80% of their attempts and earned 11 medals for total- 4 Gold, 5 Silver, 2 Bronze.
