CHFP Youth Athletes Excel at Junior Nationals
CHFP Weightlifting brought five athletes to the 2018 National Junior Championships- Youth athletes Morgan Bramble [53 kg], Natalie Andrews [58 kg], Delaney Edom [63 kg], and Avery Owens [75 kg]. Junior athlete Cole Bramble [94 kg] withdrew from the start list as a precaution for undiagnosed wrist pain. This year's event was held on February 16-18 at the Spokane Convention Center in Spokane, WA.
Fifteen year old Morgan Bramble put on a spectacular performance. Morgan was a perfect 6/6 with a competition best snatch of 58 kg, a PR clean and jerk of 79 kg and a PR total of 137 kg. Her PR performance earned a bronze medal in the clean and jerk and a 4th place finish in the total in the 53 kg class.
Fourteen year old Natalie Andrews put in solid performance in the 58 kg class. Natty tied her competition bests in the snatch [68kg], the clean and jerk [77kg] and total [145kg] to finish in 14 place overall.
Fourteen year old Delaney Edom competed in the 63 kg class and delivered a terrific performance at her first Junior Nationals. Delaney made 5 of 6 attempts and combined a PR snatch of 61kg with 75 kg clean and jerk to finish in 15th place with a 136 kg total.
Fifteen year old Avery Owens delivered the most dramatic moment for our squad at the championships. After going 3 for 3 in the snatch with a best lift of 80 kg, Avery lifted a competition PR clean and jerk of 101 kg to take the bronze medal in that event and finish in 4th place overall in the 75 kg class with a PR total of 181 kg. Following the competition, Avery was named by USA Weighting to the Youth Pan Am squad that will compete in Palmira, Colombia in June.
