As with many local competitions, our squad came prepared for this meet with varied personal objectives. For some, it was their first sanctioned competition. For most, it served as a "train-thru meet" or an opportunity to requalify for upcoming national-level competitions. For all, it was an opportunity to lift in an in-person competition and test against recent training cycles.
Notable highlights include:
Debebe Theadros added 11 kg to his personal best total going 3/3 in the snatch (all PR attempts) with a best lift of 85 kg. He added a personal best clean and jerk at 108 kg for a PR total of 193 kg.
In the 64 kg class, Chelsea Eskridge notched personal bests best in the snatch at 54 kg and for total with126 kg. Ashley Burnell lifted 70 kg for a personal best in the clean and jerk. Cat Moore [64 kg] excelled in her first weightlifting competition with a perfect six for six day with best of lifts of 59 kg in the snatch and 81 kg in the clean and jerk for a 140 kg total and qualification to the North American Open Series. New team member Angela Carlberg qualified for the National Championships with a easy 6/6 performance with best lifts of 76 kg in the snatch and 105 kg for the clean and jerk.
Masters athlete Gary Haugen [96 kg] combined a PR snatch at 74 kg with a 96 kg clean and jerk to match his personal best total of 170 kg.
Very proud of our team's effort on the platform and grateful for the team members who provided invaluable meet support. Overall, we had 11 athletes collect multiple medals and PRs while showing tremendous consistency by making 83% of their attempts- missing only 11 attempts total among them. A very nice start to 2021!
