American Open Series III makes History

CHFP Weightlifting traveled with three Youth athletes to Las Vegas to compete at the USA Weightlifting American Open Series III. The event took place within the spacious Event Center at the Westgate Casino and Resort. The last of the 2018 AO Series was an event of historic proportions with over 1650 participants lifting on five platforms over four days making it the largest weightlifting event in the sport's history. Approaching the Bar: Preparing to Compete... "On Demand"

Over time, I've observed that athletes new to competitive weightlifting approach their training as simply completing their lifting program. Some don't seem to fully understand or appreciate the value of preparation for competition. With newer athletes (and with some experienced ones) I repeatedly emphasize the process of learning to lift, learning to train, and learning to compete. Simply showing up to lift isn't training, and training without purpose is not preparing for competition. So, during team training on Saturday, I gathered the team together to remind them to consistently bring focus and intention to their preparation for competition.
