Report on 2016 NOVA Open


CHFP Weightlifting came to this year's NOVA Open with seventeen athletes competing, but it was a total team effort with many others counting, loading or helping with the meet serving as referees, marshalls and platform loaders. The NOVA Open offered many important milestones and achievements- first time competitors, American Open qualifying, 6 for 6 performances along with many athletes lifting personal bests . We had two athletes stepping onto the competition platform for the first time- Lena Mikulak and Coach Michael Goddard.

Baskin nails easy opening attempt of 78 kg to secure qualification for the American Open.

Emily Baskin and Nick Bailey lifted big and easily qualified for the 2016 American Open. Both Emily and Nick both made all three of their snatch attempts which set up them to clinch their qualifying in the clean and jerk. Emily secured the qualifying total with an easy opening attempt of at 78kg, and Nick confirmed his qualification on his second attempt.

Bailey gets 151 kg clean and jerk to confirm his qualification for the American Open.

We had six team members with flawless 6 for 6 performances- Youth athletes Delaney Edom and Natalie Andrews and Matt Mine and senior lifters Lena, Colleen Campbell, and Brett Myers.

Many team members had personal bests in the snatch, clean and jerk or total: Natalie, Matt, Emily, Colleen, Nick, Mimi Ng, Heather Krause and Alex Pyron.
