CHFP Weightlifting sent for youth-age athletes to the 2017 USA Weightlifting National Youth Championships in Atlanta, Georgia. Led by coaches Cara Heads Slaughter and Evy Voltaire, the team has three competitors on Saturday and one lifter on Sunday.
Morgan Bramble (53 kg, 14-15) got things started on Saturday morning. Morgan delivered a terrific performance at her first national championship. Morgan was successful on 5 of 6 attempts with a competition personal best snatch of 44 kg [+2], a personal best clean and jerk of 61 kg [+3] to set a personal best total of 105 kg [+5].
Natalie Andrews (58 kg, 14-15) and Delaney Edom (58 kg, 14-15) followed on Saturday afternoon. Both young ladies lit up the platform and gave spectacular performances at this year's Youth Nationals.
Delaney went 5/6 with a competition PRs in the snatch - 57 kg [+3], clean and jerk - 69 kg [+6] and total - 126 kg [+10] to finish 7th in a very competitive 58 kg class.
Natalie went 4/6 and knocked down competition PRs in the snatch [66 kg, +4], clean and jerk [75 kg, +3 kg] and total [141 kg, +9] in an intense battle for positions on the podium. When the dust cleared, Natalie collected a Silver medal in the snatch, and a Bronze for the total.
Cole Bramble (94 kg, 16-17) put on a spectacular performance at his final Youth Nationals. Going a perfect 6 for 6, Cole lifted a personal best 130 kg in the snatch, and then followed that up with a PR clean and jerk of 170 kg, increasing his PR total 9 kg to 300 kg. In the end, a gold medal sweep along with the title of Youth National Champion.
Overall, the CHFP Weightlifting youth team did very well at this year's Youth National Championships. Collectively, our four athletes were successful on 20/24 attempts, collected 5 medals and EVERY athlete lifted PRs in snatch, clean and jerk, and for the total.
