CHFP Athletes post strong performances at US, Canadian National Championships

Over two weekends in May, four CHFP athletes participated in national championships in the US and in Canada.

The USA Weightlifting National Championships took place on May 9-12 in Memphis, TN. First up was Laura Bligh in the 59 kg class. Laura went 4/6 with a best snatch of 72 kg and a best clean and jerk of 96 kg. Laura's 168 kg total was the highest achieved at a national championship- Senior or Masters.

Competing in his first Senior Nationals, Onzy Elam II [89 kg] combined a best snatch at 130 kg with a personal best clean and jerk of 162 kg on second attempt for a personal best total of 192 kg.

Marissa Gaab Vance [64 kg] returned to the national championships hoping to improve on her top 10 finish in 2018. Marissa lifted a personal best snatch of 88 kg to earn Bronze and lifted a PR clean and jerk of 111 kg to set a new personal best total of 199 kg and finish in 5th place.

On Nay 19, Elise Caron [64 kg} headed north to compete at the Canadian Senior Weightlifting Championships in La Prairie, Quebec. Competing in her first Canadian Nationals, Elise combined a best snatch of 78 kg with a best clean and jerk of 100 kg to earn a 178 kg total and an 8th place finish.
